Jasmina Vico on Anti-Ageing Skincare
Many of us will invest vast amounts of time and money in anti-ageing facial creams and treatments, but will neglect treating one of the first areas to show signs of ageing – our necks. [And let’s face it, it’s all very well having a beautiful canvas, but if its support system is sagging beneath it, it doesn’t bode too well for the future.]
However, with the likes of Cindy Crawford openly sharing her décolletage maintenance tips, we as a society are realising the importance of looking after troublesome areas such as the chin, chest and neck to maintain an overall youthful appearance - which is why BY TERRY recently launched its new Cellularose Liftessence Neck Cream, a daily lifting and firming concentrate designed to fight against signs of ageing.
Skincare specialist Jasmina Vico has long been advocating this theory and her practise in London’s Wimpole Street offers tailor-made, non-surgical treatments for the décolletage and neck areas, along with her renowned facial treatments. These include the signature Vico Glow Laser for face, neck and décolletage, which works to stimulate collagen production and elasticity, resulting in firmer skin.
Here, Jasmina discusses the daily routines and at-home treatments we can all do to fight against signs of advancing age.
The secret to younger-looking skin is simply to look after your skin well – that means a tailored skincare routine with regular treatments, not quick fixes. Reset and renew. Meditation, happiness, and laughter are all encouraged. It’s also important to eat well, stay hydrated, and sleep, sleep, sleep! It’s vital to avoid unprotected sun exposure as much as you can, especially in the sun’s peak hours, as well as limiting your consumption of alcohol and avoiding cigarettes.
People often neglect their neck and décolletage area, as well as their hands - that is until they start noticing the first visible signs of ageing. Really, prevention is key as it is always more difficult to reverse the signs of ageing than it is to prevent them. The skin around our neck and décolletage is thinner and without the same muscle groups as other areas to support it, meaning gravity often takes its toll.
There are many factors that contribute to the ageing of this area. Yo-yo dieting and overdoing exercise are two examples as both can result in a loss of volume to your face in the long run. Another contributing factor is the way we sleep. We are advised to sleep on our backs, and even the number of pillows we use can result in unwanted lines on our face. Silk pillowcases are ideal and if you have larger breasts, I'd recommend sleeping with a smaller pillow between them to minimise the crease.
Just as we look after our face with a skincare routine and treatments, the same rules apply to our neck and décolletage. When at home, I would suggest using a gentle cleansing oil on the face, neck, and décolletage, followed by a serum on your face, such as BY TERRY’s Liftessence Global Serum. While the serum is absorbing, start your at-home massage routine. The industry has changed so much these last few years, but facial massage is still one of my favourite treatments. It was one of the first skills I acquired and over the years it has become one of my signatures and one which my loyal clients look forward to. Results are instantly visible: the skin is tighter, brighter, and more radiant.
Apply a small amount of BY TERRY’s Liftessence Neck Cream to your hands and start from the décolletage area first. This cream is great because it’s non-greasy, it easily absorbs into the skin and feels very luxurious. For me, it’s a must-have for the winter to nourish and hydrate the skin. Begin by using upward sweeping movements, work towards the lymph nodes, towards your neck, before resting on the central chin area. Then start from one side of the chin moving across the jawline up towards the ear.
Repeat all the movements three times on each side. Make sure to apply the cream behind the ear – this area is important as it holds your neck. Place your ears between your point and middle finger and pull your skin upwards creating a V-shape. This will also have a lifting effect on the jaw, as well as being relaxing.
