Beauty Trend A/W17: Stained Lips
The trick of applying your lipstick so that it lasts throughout the day is one women have forever been trying to master. But now you don’t need to worry about accidentally smearing your lipstick and having to reapply it continuously – the trend this season is for deliberately smudged lipstick application. While this was a relatively new beauty trend for AW/17, the perfectly imperfect pout has in fact been sported by Parisian women for decades and is today embodied by the likes of French 'It' girl Jeanne Damas. To capture Damas’ effortlessly chic look, our Head of Artistry Albane Laloy has the pinnacle step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Apply our BAUME DE ROSE lip balm and rub it in gently, before blotting your lips with tissue paper.
Step 2: You need the right lipstick to do this stain - our Head of Artistry Albane Laloy therefore recommends a mattifying lipstick. “You can’t use a liquid because it has too much coverage and so is more difficult to use as a stain,” she explains. “Our ROUGE-EXPERT CLICK STICK is perfect because it’s light, matte and powdery so it’s very easy to blend.”
Step 3: Tap the lipstick onto your lips, preferably in the very centre, and then using your fingertips, blend the product out towards the natural lip line. “That’s what we call the ‘bitten lips effect’ because the centre is stronger in terms of colour,” comments Albane. Otherwise, if you’re looking to achieve a more traditional stained look, first outline your lip line with the lipstick before blending the product inwards towards the centre, thereby creating more volume.
Step 4: Keep the rest of your makeup minimal. Albane recommends a light dusting of bronzer (we love the Compact-Expert Dual Powder) for a natural, all-over glow, followed by a few coatings of MASCARA TERRYBLY to complete the look.
